Remember earlier this year when Donald Trump took to Twitter with absurd claims that Barack Obama ‘wiretapped’ him at Trump Tower?
The Justice Department has officially denied Trump’s claims.The statement came in response to a Freedom of Information Act request by American Oversight, a group that works to maintain government transparency.

The Justice Department announced they found no evidence for the claim in a court motion that read: “Both FBI and [the National Security Division] confirm that they have no records related to wiretaps as described by the March 4, 2017 tweets.”
Trump made his allegation in a series of tweets (what else were you expecting?) earlier this year that we can now safely confirm were a big load of total bullshit.
After the Justice Department released its motion, American Oversight said in a statement that “The FBI and Department of Justice have now… confirmed in writing that President Trump lied when he tweeted the former President Obama ‘wiretapped’ him at Trump Tower.”
Back in March, a spokesman for Obama, Kevin Lewis, had already denied Trump’s ludicrous claims. “A cardinal rule of the Obama administration was that no White House official ever interfered with any independent investigation led by the Department of Justice. As part of that practice,” Lewis explained in a statement, “neither President Obama nor any White House official ever ordered surveillance on any U.S. citizen. Any suggestion otherwise is simply false.”
