Issa Rae is headed to the big screen.
The Golden Globe-nominated creator and star of HBO’s Insecure has landed a starring role opposite Bill Hader (Trainwreck) in the upcoming film Empress of Serenity.
The film centers on a man (Hader) whose elaborate plan to win back his ex-wife is upended when he is guilted into a month-long cruise with his widowed father. Rae plays “Michelle,” a reclusive kindred spirit in the cabin next door who becomes both the aid and the obstacle in Sheldon’s plan.
Empress of Serenity is set to begin production in August, shortly after the season two premiere of Insecure.
