Get in your car, put the top down, and blast this song on the way to the beach. (This may be a little difficult considering it’s December, but just go with it!) Mika is joining forces with Nickelodeon star Ariana Grande for his latest single, taken from his third album ‘The Origin of Love‘.
‘Popular Song’ was originally performed by Mika and singer-songwriter Priscilla Renea and included on the Republic Records album. The song, which is based on the song ‘Popular’ from the musical Wicked but revamped to be about Mika’s childhood experiences, has been given a slight remix to sound more upbeat, and replace Priscilla with the teen pop sensation Ariana Grande. The remake still keeps the unmistakably ‘Mika-pop’ sound, while adding more mainstream youthful pop sensibilities by switching the arrangement slightly and adding the pop music newcomer.
Ariana currently stars as Cat Valentine in the final season of the hit TV series Victorious (and will reprise this role in her upcoming spinoff Sam & Cat) and is signed to Republic Records. Her debut album is planned for a 2013 release, but until then let’s hope this Mika feature takes off for her.
