Congratulations are in order for Jada Pinkett Smith and the entire cast of Empire.
Yesterday during the Winter Television Critics Association Tour, it was announced that freshman dramas Gotham and Empire would be back for second seasons.
What’s most impressive is that the Lee Daniels-helmed Empire was renewed after only airing two episodes.
While fielding questions during the Winter Television Critics Association Tour, Empire‘s leading lady Taraji P. Henson gave what she considered to be the secret to her show’s success.
“What you’re seeing is that shows with people of color can make money, they can be successful. And when things make money, people get interested. People want to be a part of it.“
Co-star Jussie Smollett echoed her sentiments.
“People want to see people that look like them, and they want to see people that do not look like them.“
We’re happy to see that Gotham and Empire have been renewed, and we’re interested in seeing what both shows have in store for the remainder of their first seasons.
