For Better or Worse: Brittney Griner & Glory Johnson Get Married Just Two Weeks After Domestic Violence Incident [Photos]

WNBA stars Brittney Griner and Glory Johnson got married on Friday in Phoenix, just two weeks after the couple was involved in a domestic violence incident.

As about 75 guests looked on, the brides, both 24, were married beneath an archway at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort. Bouquets and arrangements of white hydrangea, white and coral roses, and peach hypericum berries helped establish their theme of “desert elegance” in the city where Griner plays center for the three-time WNBA champion Phoenix Mercury.

Their first dance was to Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud.”

Johnson, a forward with the Tulsa Shock, wore a full-length, strapless champagne gown with a small train by Matthew Christopher that she selected from Bridals by Lori in Atlanta on an episode of TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress.

The couple were engaged last August. After the ceremony, they celebrated with a sit-down dinner on the resort’s Falls Terrace, followed by a tiered cake dessert that combined Griner’s favorite, white cake, with Johnson’s favorite, red velvet.

Now, just two weeks ago, the couple got into a physical altercation at their home in Goodyear, Arizona. They were both arrested for assault and disorderly conduct. Griner took a plea deal to enter domestic violence counseling in exchange for having her charges dropped. Johnson reportedly enrolled in counseling voluntarily.

“It is never OK for an argument to turn physical,” Griner said in a statement released through her attorney. “This will never happen again, and I take my relationship and my responsibility as a role model seriously.”

“I am committed to making positive changes and I plan to use what I have learned to set a good example and help make a difference in the world around me,” she added.

Domestic violence can have lasting psychological effects on everyone involved. We hope that they continue to work on developing a healthy relationship/marriage.

Congrats to them both!
