ESPN commentator Doug Adler has come under fire after comparing Venus Williams’ performance during her second round Australian Open match to a gorilla.
Venus was awaiting a serve from her opponent (Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland) when the remark was made.
“She misses a first serve and Venus is all over her. You see Venus move in and put the gorilla effect on. Charging,” Doug is heard saying.
While some tennis fans have come to the defense of Doug, many have pounced on the commentator for his poor word choice.
