Two months after #EbonyOwes began trending on social media following outcries from freelancers and writers who never received payment for their work from Ebony magazine, #EbonyStillOwes has come to life.
Not only has Ebony still not paid its people — but whoever’s behind the @EBONYmag Twitter account has been blocking those speaking out about it.
Larry Goldbetter, the president of the National Writers Union, said in an interview with Journal-isms that the union is representing 14 writers who are owed $30,000.
According to The Root, ‘Ebony has been hosting events and the website for its owner, Clear View Group LLC, has gotten a face-lift, so apparently it has money to pay people.’
Pay your people, Ebony.
