Chris Brown Denied Entry into Australia and New Zealand Because of His Domestic Violence History

Chris Brown has been denied entry into Australia on the basis of “character grounds” stemming from his 2008 assault involving Rihanna. Chris is scheduled to perform there in December.

Immigration Minister Chris Dutton told AAP on Sunday that Chris had been given the “Notice of Intention to Consider Refusal”, which allows him 28 days to present material as to why he should be given a visa.

via Yahoo:

“Decisions on whether a visa will or will not be issued are made after that timeframe and consideration of the material presented to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection,” Mr Dutton said.

Activist group GetUp, which has endorsed the ban on Brown entering Australia, says the move sends a strong signal that the government is willing to condemn violence against women.

“Australia is at a crisis point with men’s violence against women,” GetUp campaigner Sally Rugg said.

Last week, the government announced a $100 million package to tackle domestic violence and support women escaping abusing relationships.

The notice by Australian officials has also increased uncertainty about Brown’s New Zealand concert in Auckland on December 18.

New Zealand immigration laws mean anyone who’s been barred from another country or has previous convictions is ineligible for a visa, unless they’re granted a special exemption.

Tickets for Brown’s Australian and New Zealand dates go on sale on Monday.

This just goes to show — you never know how (or for how long) bad decisions may affect your future.
