Bad Trip: Uber Passenger Charged $14,000 for a 20-Minute Ride [Photo]

A Toronto man who took an Uber for just five miles was charged 18,518.50 Canadian dollars — which equals about $14,401.25 U.S. dollars.

The crazy thing is that the company has no idea how it happened.

The customer took an UberX and the trip SHOULD have been anywhere from $12-$16 dollars.

Uber stood behind the charge at first, but then a friend of the rider reached out to Uber customer support on behalf of her friend and managed to get a more appropriate response and a refund.

“There was an error and we have provided a full refund,” an Uber spokeswoman told the Daily News. “We sincerely apologize to this rider for his experience. “We have safeguards in place to help prevent something like this from happening and we are working to understand how this occurred.”

Make sure you check your ride receipts, love muffins.
