Donald Trump’s days of lying to the American people behind protected social media accounts are quickly coming to an end — whether he concedes or not.
Facebook and Twitter plan to ensure an orderly transition of official accounts by handing over @POTUS and other accounts to the Biden administration in January.
The White House, vice president and first lady accounts will be handed over then, as well.
Both companies announced on Saturday that the transfer of institutional handles would take place on Jan. 20, shortly after Joe Biden is inaugurated.
“Twitter is actively preparing to support the transition of White House institutional Twitter accounts on January 20th, 2021. As we did for the presidential transition in 2017, this process is being done in close consultation with the National Archives and Records,” the company said.
Our reign of Trump social media terror won’t be completely over — Donald will still be able to use his personal Twitter account, however it won’t have his protections as a world leader and will be subject to the same terms and conditions as everyone else.
