Orlando Jones shared on Saturday that he was not invited back for the third season of the STARZ fantasy ‘American Gods’ because of racism — but the show’s producer insists that’s not the case.
via Page Six:
It’s just a matter of the storyline evolving without him — or, more precisely, without his character, “Mr. Nancy,” a spokesperson for the show’s producing company, Fremantle, told Deadline.
“The storylines of American Gods have continually shifted and evolved to reflect the complex mythology of the source material,” the spokesperson said.
“Mr. Jones’ option was not picked up because Mr. Nancy, among other characters, is not featured in the portion of the book we are focusing on within Season 3,” the spokesperson added.
Jones had complained on Twitter that he has been “fired.”
“I’m not going to name names but the new season 3 showrunner is Connecticut born and Yale-educated, so he’s very smart and he thinks that Mr. Nancy’s angry, get shit done is the wrong message for black America,” he tweeted.
We’re sure Orlando wouldn’t express those sentiments without strong reason for doing so.
