Tina Knowles says that she put both her kids, Beyoncé and Solange, in counseling at early ages to help them adjust to Bey’s rising star power.
Tina Knowles says she felt it was necessary for the girls to see a counselor because Beyoncé was already emerging as a star as a child, and she wanted the girls to be able to handle the challenges that came with that.
“I wanted Beyoncé to be sensitive to the fact that Solange had to deal with being a little bit in her shadow,” Knowles explains in a short video conversation with Maria Shriver, which was posted Friday by TMZ.
“It was tough, because (Solange) was 5 years old, and Beyoncé was this little superstar in our city,” she said. “I took them to counseling very early so that the counselor could help Beyoncé be more sensitive to Solange, because she couldn’t stand her for a minute.”
She added that Solange — who is five years younger than the “Halo” singer — would irritate her older sister while they were growing up in Houston, and she believes the counseling was successful in helping Beyoncé understand what her sibling was dealing with.
How great of Tina to realize what her daughters would deal with early enough to step in and make a change.
