Taylor Swift Denies Giving Kanye West Permission to Name Drop Her in Controversial New Song

2015 MTV Video Music Awards - Fixed Show

Kanye West’s new album The Life of Pablo has a song called “Famous” that name drops Taylor Swift in a not-so-positive way.

The line goes,

“I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/ I made that bitch famous”

At first everyone seemed a little taken aback at the lyric — especially considering the fact that Kanye West and Taylor Swift are (were) on good terms.

A little later, TMZ sources revealed that Kanye West called Taylor ahead of time and explained that it was a ‘joke’ and Taylor approved.

Taylor’s brother, however, took to Instagram to share a video of him throwing a pair of Kanye’s Yeezy Boosts in the trash.

Getting a head start on some spring cleaning. Here we go again.

According to Taylor’s spokesperson, Kanye never asked for approval and Taylor “cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message.”

Approval aside, can anyone explain how Taylor could caution Kanye about releasing a song with ‘such a strong misogynistic message’ but at the same time was never made aware of the ‘actual lyric’?

Something’s not quite adding up here.
