Say What Now? Former James Bond Actor Roger Moore Says Idris Elba Shouldn't Play James Bond Because He's Not 'English-English'

Former James Bond actor Roger Moore has landed himself in hot water after claiming that Idris Elba shouldn’t portray James Bond because he’s not “English-English.” Roger Moore played the iconic character from 1973 to 1985.

Roger, now 87 years old, made the remarks in an interview with Paris Match Magazine.

“A few years ago, I said that Cuba Gooding Jr. would make an excellent Bond, but it was a joke! Although James may have been played by a Scot, a Welshman and an Irishman, I think he should be ‘English-English.’ Nevertheless, it’s an interesting idea, but unrealistic.”

Following the circulation of Roger’s remarks online, many users on social media accused the actor of being racist.

After backlash refused to die down, Roger took to Twitter this morning to reveal that his words had been “lost in translation.”

As many of you know, Idris has been touted as the best choice to play the next James Bond since his name was mentioned in leaked Sony e-mails last December.
