Witches around the world will cast a “mass spell” on Donald Trump at midnight on Friday night in a ritual that calls for an unflattering photo of Trump, a tower tarot card, salt, a candle, a feather and either the stub of an orange candle or a baby carrot.

The stroke-of-midnight rite is a “binding spell” to deter the President from doing harm — not a hex or curse meant to harm him, writer and magical thinker Michael M. Hughes, 50, explained to the Daily News.
“This I consider to be primarily a self-defense measure,” Hughes said. “So many of us are just overwhelmed with the assaults on civil liberties, immigrants, the environment … This felt like a way to reclaim our power and say, ‘We have power over you. You don’t have power over us.'”
Hughes, who says he has also protested through traditional outlets like marching, letter-writing and calling Congress, helped finesse the ritual instructions crafted by some private magic groups.
He then posted them to the politics site ExtraNewsFeed, where they went viral — drawing global response from witches; traditional African spiritual groups; practitioners of hoodoo, voodoo and Santeria; and even Christian folk magicians.
“I don’t have a specific set of things to look for to see if it succeeded,” Hughes said. “What I would look for is things that push his agenda back … a lawsuit by the ACLU, a circuit court ruling against something, some sort of really strong blowback against things he’s trying to do.”
Participants will repeat the spell during every waning crescent moon — i.e., March 26, April 24, May 23, June 21, July 21, Aug. 19 and so on — until Trump is booted from office. The June date is of particular importance, as it marks the summer solstice, Hughes wrote on ExtraNewsFeed.
Ever-ethereal Lana Del Rey appeared to endorse the magic-making on Twitter Thursday night, listing the first few waning crescent moon dates and writing that “Ingredients can b found online.”
“I call upon you / To bind / Donald J. Trump / So that he may fail utterly / That he may do no harm / To any human soul / Nor any tree / Animal / Rock / Stream / or Sea,” goes part of the spell. It later calls for spirits to bind “all those who enable his wickedness and those whose mouths speak his poisonous lies,” as well.
The grassroots “#magicresistance” has organized in a Facebook group that had more than 6,000 likes as of this writing.
Hughes plans to convene with about 50 people Friday in a private wooded area in Baltimore. He purchased supplies on Amazon, which he praised as “pretty much a one-stop shop for binding-ritual supplies.”
As a way to fight back, the Christian Nationalist Alliance is mobilizing ‘all Christian soldiers’ to pray a counter-prayer by reading Psalm 23 during the planned ritual time.
