Rick Fox knows all about what Carmelo and La La Anthony are going through — and he’s happy that his 2004 separation from singer Vanessa Williams happened BEFORE the age of social media.

“I come from a different era, there wasn’t as much scrutiny at that time,” said Fox, who was married to Williams, the first African-American Miss America, for the final five years of a 13-year playing career that saw him win three NBA titles.
Things started going south for the couple when the National Enquirer published photos of Fox and another woman kissing. The celebrity pair soon after announced that they were in the thick of a separation, and finalized their divorce in 2005.
“Social media today keeps everything in the forefront; there’s conversation on a minute to minute to minute basis,” Fox said. “Fortunately for both of them, the offseason is upon them and they can have some time to deal with their personal and professional lives over the summer. It’s a very tough thing to go through.”
