Keke Palmer Makes History as First Black Actress to Play ‘Cinderella’ on Broadway, Sherri Shepherd to Play Evil Stepmother

Keke Palmer has made 2014 her year!

Not only has she set the record as the youngest person to ever host their own talk show, Keke has now become the first Black actress to play Cinderella on Broadway.

Palmer will step into the title role in Rogers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella beginning September 9.

“It’s honestly one of those things that I can’t believe is really happening,” Palmer told the Associated Press. “I’m very excited. Very excited and nervous as well — a bunch of feelings all at once.”

We all remember Brandy’s exciting role as Cinderella in the 1997 TV movie alongside Whitney Houston. Keke credits Brandy’s performance for allowing her to take on this role.

“I feel like the reason I’m able to do this is definitely because Brandy did it on TV,” Palmer said. “In me doing this, it shows everybody that everything is possible.”

Not only is Keke coming to Broadway, but Sherri Shepherd announced that she’ll also be making her Broadway debut alongside Keke as Cinderella’s evil stepmother.

Congrats to both ladies!
