FOX is currently developing a limited series about a racially-motivated police shooting, and Sanaa Lathan has been cast in the lead role.

According to Variety, the timely series will explore “the dangerous aftermath of a police shooting when an African-American cop kills a white teen in Tennessee. Lathan (“The Perfect Guy”) will play an expert investigator who digs into the case, alongside a yet-to-be-cast special prosecutor sent to the town by the Department of Justice. The duo must navigate the media attention, public debate and the social unrest that comes with such a volatile case, as they seek justice before the divided town erupts in a race war.”

Gina Prince-Bythewood, who wrote and directed Love & Basketball, will write, executive produce and direct the series.

A black cop killing a white teen? Given today’s racial climate—in which black lives seem to overwhelmingly be the target of police brutality—the overall response to this news should be interesting.
