A little girl from South Carolina is making headlines this morning after her mother shared a story about her experience in picking out a new doll.
The girl’s mom, Brandi Benner, shared the story on Facebook writing that she and her husband Nick decided to buy their daughter, Sophia, a new doll because she finished her potty training.
Sophia, who aspires to be a doctor, picked out a brown doll that she thinks looks just like her — despite the obvious differences in race.
Everything was all good until the cashier at Target asked if she had picked up the ‘wrong’ doll.
“We both gave her a blank stare,” Brandi wrote in her post. “I let the cashier know that she was a prize for Sophia being potty trained. The woman gave me a puzzled look and turned to Sophia and asked, ‘Are you sure this is the doll you want, honey?'”
Brandi said that the cashier continued to question her daughter’s doll choice, even saying that the store has other dolls that look more like her.
According to Brandi, that’s when Sophia spoke up on her own and told the cashier that the doll does look like her.
“She’s a doctor like I’m a doctor. And I’m a pretty girl and she’s a pretty girl,” the child said. “See her pretty hair? And see her stethoscope?'”
Btw, she credits popular kids’ show Doc McStuffins for teaching her the word ‘stethoscope.’
The cashier eventually dropped the matter and Brandi took to social media to share a photo of her daughter happily playing with her new toy.
