We admit — we haven’t really watched much of VH1’s Sorority Sisters. In fact, we know more about the show from the surrounding controversy than the programming itself.
Anyway, cast members April McRae and Rwanda Hammond have been suspended from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., as of December 26th.
Sorority Sisters has seen a huge wave of backlash since its premiere in early Dcember — from petitions, to boycotts, to even national sponsors pulling their commercial spots.
Those against the show argue that the show is destroying the legacies of black Greek-letter organizations by showcasing their members acting like…the rest of black women on reality television.
McRae and Hammond’s suspension is in effect until July 2016, and they aren’t allowed to participate “any and all Sorority activities, in any capacity, until restored to good standing by the Regional Director, upon approval of the International President.”
Welp.
