Lee Daniels Shares First Photo of Jussie Smollett Following Homophobic, Racist, Attack + Fox Issues a Statement: 'We Are Deeply Saddened'

‘Empire’ creator Lee Daniels took to Instagram to share a screenshot of his FaceTime conversation with Jussie Smollett as he recovered in the hospital.

As reported, Jussie was brutally attacked by two men as he walked to Subway in Chicago at 2am.

The two men both white and wearing ski masks — attacked Jussie as he fought back, but they beat him badly and fractured a rib.

They put a rope around his neck, poured bleach on him and as they left they yelled, “This is MAGA country.”

Jussie then took himself to Northwestern Memorial where the above FaceTime call between him and Lee took place.

He was released later Tuesday morning.

Fox has issued a statement expressing outrage at the incident:

“We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our EMPIRE family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night. We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate — and especially against one of our own.”

Authorities are investigating and are said to have already pulled surveillance footage from a nearby Target as well as an apartment building.
