Wendy Williams Apologizes for ‘Transphobic’ Show Segment [Video]

Wendy Williams has taken to Twitter to issue an apology for a segment that aired on her talk show which many have deemed “transphobic“.

She, along with a few panelists were discussing Chloie Jonsson’s lawsuit against CrossFit for violating her civil rights when the denied her the opportunity to participate in the women’s division at the upcoming CrossFit games — despite being legally recognized in the state of California as a woman after undergoing gender confirmation surgery in 2006.

Beginning at 3:15 in the below video, Williams tells viewers that she agrees that Jonsson should not be permitted to compete in the women’s division at the CrossFit Games, due to the fact that “this is an unfair advantage… you can take away female parts or male parts or whatever — it’s like Chaz Bono! You know Chaz is a man now, but I bet she still fights like a girl like the rest of us and she’s not as strong as a man who was born a man.”

After the segment aired, Wendy’s various social media accounts were flooded with angry fans accusing her of transphobia and being insensitive.

She later tweeted this apology:
