Janelle Monae took to the stage of the Today show on Friday to perform her new song, “Hell You Talmbou” — a song dedicated to the Black Lives Matter movement.
At the end of her performance, Janelle began to speak about police brutality. She began to tell the audience:
“God bless all the lives lost to police brutality. We want white America to know that we stand tall today. We want black America to know we stand tall today. We will not be silenced…”
And THAT’s when the camera panned away and a Today show anchor began to speak OVER Janelle as she continued.
The timing of the cut-away has many people thinking the show did it on purpose.
