Wait! Could Marvin Gaye’s Family Be Suing Pharrell Over ‘Happy’ Next? [Videos]

Could Marvin Gaye’s family be seeking to leave Pharrell Williams destitute and balled up in a corner on a dirty air mattress? Possibly.

As you know by now, Pharrell and Robin Thicke were recently ordered to pay Marvin’s family $7.4 million for plagiarizing Marvin’s 1970s hit Got to Give It Up, and now Marvin’s family is side-eyeing another Pharrell-produced track: Happy.

Marvin’s daughter Nona Gaye spoke with Entertainment Tonight about Happy and its striking similarity to Marvin’s 1965 hit Ain’t That Peculiar.

“I’m not going to lie. I do think they sound alike.”

Marvin’s ex-wife Janis Gaye also noticed Happy‘s likeness to Ain’t That Peculiar.

“I heard the mashups, but I didn’t really need to hear them. I know ‘Ain’t That Peculiar,’ and I’ve heard ‘Happy.'”

Luckily for Pharrell, Marvin’s family is currently too busy basking in their Blurred Lines victory to even consider legal action against Pharrell… for now.

“We’re not in that space,” says Nona.

Pharrell better pray that Marvin’s family never gets in that space, because Happy and Ain’t That Peculiar do sound alike.

We imagine that losing two multi-million dollar lawsuits back to back is similar to simultaneously being hit with several overdraft fees (LOL).

Listen to Happy and Ain’t That Peculiar below, and share your thoughts.
