Serena Williams Fires Back at Reporter Who Suggested Her Australian Open Match Performance Was Shaky: ‘Are You Serious?’ [Video]

The Williams sisters appear to be making headlines for everything other than their exceptional tennis.

Hours after Venus’ performance during her second round Australian Open match was likened to a gorilla, Serena fired back at a reporter who referred to her second round match performance against Lucie Safarova as “scrappy.”

“Looked a little bit of a scrappy performance. A few more unforced errors, a few double-faults,” a reporter said to Serena during her post-match press conference.

“I think that’s a very negative thing to say. Are you serious?” Serena shot back.

“Just my observation,” the reporter responded.

“Well, you should have been out there. That wasn’t very kind. You should apologize. Do you want to apologize?” Serena asked.

“I do. I’m sorry,” the reporter answered.

Serena, seemingly content with the reporter’s apology, continued the presser: “Thank you very much. That was a great performance. I played well. She’s a former top-10 player. The last time we played together was in the finals of a Grand Slam.”

Well, there you have it. Watch a clip of the twos’ exchange below.

Serena is on a quest to win her 23rd overall Grand Slam title at this year’s Australian Open.
