We’ve seen our fair share of racist and commercials, but this ad for a Chinese detergent brand might be the most offensive yet.
In the commercial, a Black man is shoved into a washing machine and comes out as an Asian man — much to the delight of the woman who put him in there.

Thanks to traditional beauty standards valuing white skin, many Chinese people have a well-established phobia of dark skin which unfortunately also breeds racist attitudes towards people of African descent, who are viewed by some as “dirty” simply because of their skin tone.

It’s also noted that this commercial is a blatant rip-off of an Italian commercial for laundry detergent — only the racial stereotypes have been flipped.
