Hey my dear love muffins!

This February as we start to celebrate Black History Month and the influential figures that have paved the way for equality across America, I feel like it’s important to honor those who are influential in making a difference right now. If you’re not familiar, I’d like to introduce you to Beverly Bond.

Beverly Bond is truly an amazing, inspiring, and powerful woman.

Beverly Bond left home for New York when she was 17 years old to pursue a modeling career, eventually landing at Wilhelmina Models. With her stunning looks, she began a successful career in modeling as she was booked by such clients as Diesel Jeans, Guess, Nike and Nordstroms. While on her journey, she discovered a passion for DJing and shortly after switched careers. She began to spin at local clubs for fun, but within a year’s time Beverly turned into one of New York’s top DJs.

In 2006, Bond founded BLACK GIRLS ROCK! which debuted its signature event on BET in 2010. Beverly Bond’s work as a community leader has earned her a number of prestigious recognitions. Most recently Bond was recognized as one of Essence magazine’s “40 Fierce and Fabulous Women Who are Changing the World,” placing her in the company of such notables as First Lady Michelle Obama. Bond was also recently named as one of Ebony’s “Most Influential Blacks In America.”

Beverly Bond has done such a great job at honoring Black women for their positive influence that I’d like to pay it forward and return the favor. I’d like to announce The. B. Scott Brunch Series, a series of brunches honoring black women for their exemplary achievements. Our first honoree is Mrs. Beverly Bond, recognizing her for the inspiring women of color around the world at my signature brunch Saturday (June 29, 2013) before The BET Awards.

Thank you Mrs. Bond for being such a role model for Black women around the world.

But that’s not all…

Because a great mentor can make all the difference, Coca-Cola has teamed up with Magic Johnson, Common and Debra Lee of BET Networks to give four young people the apprenticeship experience of a lifetime. Visit MCR.com/PayItForward to nominate an aspiring youth and help pay it forward to the next generation. You’ll also be automatically entered for a chance to win $5,000 for each nomination you make (up to five nominations per person).
