Who gon’ stop Empire?

For the first time since 1998, Madonna will have to settle for the number two spot on the Billboard 200.

The Empire soundtrack debuted at number one this week, earning 130,000 equivalent album units and becoming the first television soundtrack to debut at number one in five years.

Madonna’s Rebel Heart debuted with 121,000 equivalent album units.

It’s important to note, however, that Madonna’s Rebel Heart sold more albums than Empire (116,000 versus 110,000), but the soundtrack garnered more streams and individual track purchases, hence it claiming the number one spot.

The last album to block Madonna from the top spot on the Billboard 200, you ask? The Titanic soundtrack.

Congratulations to the cast of Empire! Onwards and upwards!
