Chris Brown Talks Influences & Creativity: ‘I might want to do a country album’

Are you ready for Chris Brown the country superstar? It’s okay…we’re not sure if we are either. While out promoting his forthcoming release X, Chris Brown called into Charlotte radio station Power 98 to talk influences.

While his new single “Fine China” recalls Michael Jackson, Brown has always openly acknowledges MJ’s proverbial presence in his life.

“Michael is one of my greatest influences,” he said. “The way I look at everything I approach is… I wouldn’t say a Michael Jackson standpoint, but I would say, ‘Would he like it? Would he approve of it?’ I looked up to him as a kid for every dance, for everything.”

Besides MJ, Brown explained that his musical tastes run the gamut. He’s open to experimenting with a number of different musical styles, including ones Team Breezy may not expect.

“Music is for everyone,” he said. “When you put genres on music, you segregate it. I want to always be able to do any kind of music I want. When I get older I might want to do a country album. Next year, I might want to do all hip-hop album or alternative album. Just making sure that anything that goes down, showing my audience or showing people that have a creative mind that you can do anything you want, it’s just about believing and loving what you’re doing in a positive way.”

While he said he’ll have to be taken serious as a rapper before he releases a hip-hop album, it’s not entirely out of the question.

“I don’t know if the world is ready for Chris Brown: The Rapper,” he admitted.

As far as his upcoming release, Brown touted that “some songs might change your life.”
