According to several of our sources rapper Roderick Anthony Burton II (born November 25, 1987) better known by his stage name Dolla, was fatally shot at the entrance to the Beverly Center mall this afternoon, and police were searching for two suspects. Our sources close to the situation believe the shooting stemmed from an initial altercation in Atlanta, GA. No official word has been confirmed on the motive.

The shooting occurred just after 3 p.m. at the La Cienega Boulevard entrance to the popular Westside shopping center. All entrances and exits to the popular Westside shopping mall were sealed off as police swarmed the scene. LAPD officials said that officers were sent to the mall on a report of a group fight, possibly involving a knife. LAPD Sgt. Ronnie Crump said two suspects ran in the direction of Beverly Hills. At a Chipotle restaurant in the mall, several people were eating when the shots rang out. “The customers were yelling ‘close the store, close the store, because somebody is shooting,’ ” said Elsa Hernandez, general manager of the restaurant. An employee who was behind the restaurant, near the mall’s valet parking service, saw the tail end of the dispute, Hernandez said. “He saw a lady … shooting a handgun,” Hernandez said. latimes.com

Morton’s The Steakhouse
www.mortons.com

When you think Morton’s The Steakhouse, your mind goes to the obvious—steaks. But now it’s time to start thinking something off the beaten path—burgers. It’s summertime, and one of the best things about this time are all of the foods related to the grill. Now you can get a great burger from a fancy steakhouse without opening one bag of charcoal. There are Morton’s sprinkled across the country, and almost all of them are featuring this summer’s Sunday-only sirloin burger. It’ll cost you a mighty $19.78, a throwback to the restaurant’s 30 year anniversary. Don’t let the price tag deter you. Not only is it one of the best burgers you’ll eat with your choice of up to four different toppings, but a portion of the bill does support Morton’s contribution to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. As if Hollywood didn’t have enough new spots, there’s another one that’s sure to create even more traffic on the Boulevard and encourage long lines outside its door. Take a historic department store building turned trashy lingerie shop and renovate it, sprucing up its innate Art Deco vibe with the glitz and glam of the city, and you end up wit ‘The Kress’.

Still in its soft opening phase, ‘The Kress’ has pulled in much buzz after its first weekend open to the public – or at least those in the know. Boasting a multi-level venue with a large, alluring dining area, an upstairs sushi lounge and a 360 degree cabana covered rooftop overlooking Hollywood, the restaurant is more like a tower of entertainment than an eatery. In a world overflowing with high priced, over brewed lattes and mochas, there likes in limbo the corner coffeeshop—the kind of coffeeshop that asserts its name proudly amongst the commercialized clones. Although Marie et Cie may not take the fight to stay alive that far, it is a strong contender in the race. Nestled on the corner of Colfax Avenue and Riverside Drive, Marie et Cie’s is a gem of a neighborhood find. Half coffeeshop/cafe and half antique store, it offers two things most people to do—eat and shop. CONTINUE READING

March 17, 2008 NIGHTLIFE: LA Mill Coffee

LA Mill Coffee

La Mill Coffee
(323) 663-4462
1636 Silver Lake Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90026

Hours are still moving around:
9am-5pm Tue-Sun; eventually opens 6am-9pm

• Restaurant, but more a serious designer coffee house
• Food options are limited and priced towards BMW 750 owners
• Very very friendly staff but service is slow and inconsistent
• Cleanest bathrooms in a Silverlake establishment, EVER!

LA Mill Coffee is one impressive “looking” hybrid restaurant and coffee house. Originally known for it’s high-end black-bean delights, this year the venue partnered up with a proper chef and expanded into the breakfast and lunch arena. But… if LA Mill were a radio show I’d have to call it “Morning Becomes Too Eclectic” for anybody to actually eat.

We here at Love B. Scott try to review restaurants and events that we think are fantastic recommendations, but this spot was so over the top odd and annoying we had to “ring the alarm” of concern. This is the kind of restaurant non-Californians mock us for. Tiny, fussy plates of food involving intimidating ingredients. And the ironic part is their mission statement is to provide simple, straight-forward fare.

We started with coffee. Wait, not “coffee”, but an orange infused cappuccino with textured (read: steamed) milk garnished with cacao. This was actually a fantastic cup of coffee, but the fact remains-it was still coffee, and I’m not entirely sure a cup should ever cost $6. CONTINUE READING
