Ryan Leslie – You’re Not My Girl: Ryan Leslie doesn’t sleep. Even though he released his debut album this past February, this is the lead single off of his upcoming album, Transition, which is due out this fall. This song is HOT! It reminds me a bit of Omarion’s “Entourage”…only better. Ryan Leslie is a musical genius and this is a must-have for the iPod.

July 1, 2009 New Music: Shakira & Nelly Furtado!

shakira-nelly-furtado

Latin ladies Shakira and Nelly Furtado are both gearing up to release new studio albums later this year. Shakira’s as-yet untitled album is reportedly due out in October and is rumored to feature contribution from super producers Pharrell Williams and Red One. “Loba (She Wolf)” is the lead single and in my opinion it sounds absolutely amazing. The 70s disco-inspired track is a new direction for Shakira, but she manages to retain her signature sound and unique vocals. I also like the fact that it’s been released in Spanish. According to fan forums, the Spanish as well as the English version will be available on iTunes July 14th!

Check out “Loba” below and let me know what you think!

June 27, 2009 New Music: Jeremih – Jeremih

Jeramih-album-cover

Jeremih, also known as Mr. Birthday Sex is ready to drop his debut album via Def Jam next week. The lead single, “Birthday Sex” has swept the nation reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and peaked at #4 on the Hot 100. It took a while for the song to grow on me, but after hearing it all over the radio I love it! I’m not sure sure about the rest of the album though. It has good moments, but if you’re looking for substance this is not the album for you. Despite the lack of lyrical substance in this album, Jeremih is indeed talented.

Take a listen to one of my favorite songs from the album, “Buh Bye” below, and check out Jeremih’s talent as he covers Stevie Wonder’s “Ribbon in the Sky” after the jump! Don’t forget to pick up Jeremih’s self titled debut album, Jeremih on June 30th!

The Dream – Hit It On The Road: In the midst of putting together top notch tracks for just about every other artist set to release an album this year, The Dream also has plans on re-releasing his Love VS Money album. This man is everywhere, but as long as he keeps putting out hits like this I can’t complain. This sex-driven song is quite the club banger! Check out the promo video for Love VS Money: The Hangover which features the song.

June 23, 2009 New Music Video: Ciara – Work

ciara_work_video02

Honey, you better WORK! Ciara’s brand new video premiered earlier today and this is by far the hottest video I’ve seen from her in a long time. She gave me every single thing I needed and more in this video. Homegirl is dancing for her life! I guess she knew what she needed to do in order to boost those Fantasy Ride sales. Melina is one of the baddest directors in the business. I’m super thrilled that she and Ciara were able to make something so fierce! Only they could combine high fashion with a construction site and make it splendiferously divine!

June 20, 2009 New Music: Toni Braxton – Pulse

2009 really is shaping up to be the year of the divas! With Mariah, Whitney, and Toni all scheduled to release albums in the fall, the airwaves (both radio and TV alike) should be flooded with talent. Take a listen to this newly leaked track from Ms. Braxton called “Pulse”, which is rumored to be the title track from her new album. It’s a beautifully sung, emotion-filled ballad that showcases Toni’s sultry voice as she sings about a dying relationship in need of a “pulse”. I’m not sure if this is set to be a single or not. Personally I think it’s a great album track, but I don’t think it has enough potential to be a lead single.

June 19, 2009 Jam It? Or Slam It? Rihanna – Te Amo

rihanna-promo-061909

Check out this newly leaked track that’s supposedly from Rihanna’s latest recording sessions. “Te Amo” was written and previously demoed by songwriter James Fauntleroy. It reminds me a lot of the material from her first album Music of the Sun. It has much more of an organic feel to it than most of recent songs we’ve heard from Ri Ri. It’s unknown what direction she’s taking with this new album, but if she decided to throw a few tracks like this, along with her usual dance-pop numbers, I wouldn’t be disappointed. I will say I’m slightly confused as to why she’s singing about another female. That means there’s a good chance it’s just a demo. Whether it’s a demo or not, it’s still a great song!

What do you think love muffins, do we jam it? Or slam it?

June 18, 2009 New Music: Maxwell – BLACKsummers’ Night

maxwell-album-cover-061009-1

Maxwell returns from nearly a decade-long hiatus with his new 3-part album, BLACKsummers’ Night. The first disc is set to hit stores on July 7th, with the next two scheduled for release in 2010 and 2011. Love muffins, I have to say that I’m a little disappointed with this first installment. I absolutely love the lead single “Pretty Wings”, but this album leaves me feeling a little empty. Maybe because it’s only 9 songs? I’m not sure…this one might have to grow on me. Hopefully BlackSUMMERS’ Night and Blacksummers’ NIGHT leave me feeling a bit more fulfilled.

Don’t forget, Maxwell will be hitting the stage at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans on July 4th!

Love muffins, I hope you enjoyed the download while it lasted! Please support Maxwell by purchasing BLACKsummers’ Night when it hits stores July 7th. You can pre-order the album through iTunes by clicking here.
