Flashback Friday: Des’ree - You Gotta Be
+ March 28, 2008

Maybe it’s because of Spring and the warm weather, maybe it is all the positive energy from you Love Muffins but I am just feeling so happy right now! This is just one of those songs that puts a smile on my face and helps me walk a little taller. On this splendiferous day (the last Friday of March!) remember to be BAD, BOLD and WISER! (B. Scott doing the happy dance!)
Flashback Friday: The Cardigans - “Lovefool”
+ March 21, 2008
Love Muffins have you ever felt like a love fool?
Has somebody brought you into their world, drawn you into their spirit and then dumped you flat? Or maybe you keep falling for the same type of person that you know is no good for you. Regardless, I’m here to tell you that NO ONE truly understands love and you can’t help feeling those emotions. But how you ACT on those emotions… that’s another story.
For now, let’s go back to 1999 and see if we can’t learn something from The Cardigans:

I’m Feeling Whitney Houston Today!
+ March 4, 2008
Love muffins, I choose Whitney Houston’s I Learned From The Best video for those of you out there who have an ex who is trying to jump back into your life after they went and broke your heart. Give them the boot like Whitney did and tell them you learned from the best, I learned from you!
Flashback Video: a-ha - Take On Me

This video was WAY ahead of its’ time and I think it still stands up well against music videos today. Everytime I hear this song come on the radio or shuffle through my iPod, I just get this jolt of happiness! It’s truly splendiferous!

Flashback Video: Sade
+ February 10, 2008
Oh My Sunday! I woke up this morning in a Sade kinda mood. I played her greatest hits CD and knew I had to post one of her songs for my love muffins. There were plenty of her popular songs that I could have chosen but I’ve always been a fan of the more obscure. Although this song was as popular as some of her others (Kiss Of Life, Smooth Operator, Your Love Is King, etc.), this is probably my favorite song of hers. While the Lyrics are simple, they say so much!
I won’t pretend that I intend to stop living
I won’t pretend I’m good at forgiving
But I can’t hate you
Although I have tried
MMMMI still really really love you
Love is stronger than pride
I still really really love you
MM MM MM MM MMSitting here wasting my time
Would be like
Waiting for the sun to rise
It’s all too clear things come and go
Sitting here waiting for you
Would be like waiting for winter
It’s gonna be cold
There may even
Be snow
And just for kicks, here is one of favorite renditions done by Rahsaan Patterson (if you don’t know who he is, you’re really missing out). To remake such a classic song is difficult but he’s the only one I’ve heard that has done it justice and made it his own. I’ve ripped the audio into an mp3 if you like what you hear. Check it out!

Flashback Video “Something In My Heart”
+ February 1, 2008
I absolutely love this song. It brings back so many memories. Michel’le was unique because when she used her speaking voice she sounded like she had been sucking on a helium balloon but when she sang, she had such a big voice. Hope you enjoy the flashback.

As her fifth album, Satisfied delivers a powerful selection of 13 songs from acclaimed writers and producers including Rick Nowels, Billy Steinberg, Mike Mangini, Peter Wade, and Richie Jones, among others. Flashback Video: The Wind Beneath My Wings
+ January 27, 2008
Bette Midler’s number-one single “Wind Beneath My Wings” from the soundtrack of the film Beaches is simply one of favorite songs ever! This song which was named “Record of the Year” and “Song of the Year” at the 1990 Grammy Awards never fails to touch me no matter how many times I have heard it.
Amel Larrieux’s “Weary” Sums Up…
+ January 23, 2008
…exactly how I feel sometimes especially on raining days like yesterday (and yes it rains in Southern California from time to time)! Take me higher lord, please send me a good man soon!
Of having to be so strong
Of having to pretend I’m made of stone
So I won’t end up with no broken bones
I can’t fight every battle alone
I want someone to lift me
Heal my wounds and give me kisses on my head
Say words that should be said
Fear is not the matter
I would so much rather open up my heart
And lay down my guard
Flashback Video: Missy Elliot - The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)
+ January 22, 2008
Missy Elliot’s “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” off her debut 1997 album, Supa Dupa Fly, has to be one of my favorite songs and videos of all time, enjoy!
Alicia Keys: Stripped, Raw, and Real
+ January 19, 2008
I know it’s a lot of music post right now but what can I say, I’m in a musical mood. Anyway, A couple of months ago, Alicia Keys did a show for Clear Channel Entertainment called “Stripped, Raw and Real” where she performed 6 songs in promotion of her new album. I got my hands on the mp3s from that show and they were really good quality so I thought I’d share. My favorite song of the night was her rendition “Tender Love” (A cover of the Force MD’s classic for all my 80s music fans out there). She had me worried with her cover of The Fray’s “How To Save A Life” but Ms. Keys has totally redeemed herself with this one. Her version is just amazing.

Alicia Keys - Stripped, Raw, and Real (All 6 Songs)
One-hit wonder Uncle Sam also did a version of Tender Love that I used to have on repeat while in boarding school. Ahhh the memories. If you don’t remember who Uncle Sam is, he’s the guy who sang “I Don’t Ever Want To See You Again”.
Uncle Sam - Tender Love (Cover)
And we must never forget the original song sung by Force MD’s and written by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. The video looks corny now but trust me, it’s a classic. Where are all my 80’s fans?
