September 5, 2007 Flashback Video: “One Of Us”

Joan Osborne’s 1995 smash it “One Of Us” really captures my mellow mood today. Around January 1996, “One of Us” hit the top 10. Finally in March 1996 “One of Us” climbed to No. 1 on Rock On The Net’s ARC Weekly Top 40 and stayed there for 2 weeks. Its peak chart position on the Billboard Hot 100 was No. 4. Enjoy love muffins!

September 4, 2007 Flashback Video: “Come On Over”

Christina Aguilera
’s “Come On Over” was definitely one of my jams awhile back and I find myself singing it randomly to this day. “Come on Over Baby (All I Want Is You)” became Christina’s third number-one hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and spent four weeks at the top from October 8 to November 4, 2000. The RIAA eventually certified the single gold.

August 28, 2007 Love Muffin Request: Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U”

Yesterday I featured the Flashback Video: Sinéad O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” and one of my love muffins left this comment/request:

YOU SHOULD POST PRINCE’S LIVE VERSION OF THE SONG WITH ROSIE GAINES PUTTING THE STANKY STANK ON IT. HE WROTE IT IF IM NOT MISTAKEN.

Love muffin you’re correct, “Nothing Compares 2 U” was written around 1984 or 1985 by Prince for The Family. Due to the song’s newfound popularity by Sinéad O’Connor, Prince began to perform it in concert and included a live rendition on his 1993 compilations The Hits/The B-Sides and The Hits 1. Prince’s version features Rosie Gaines, who at the time was in his group the New Power Generation. And yes Rosie Gaines put the “stanky stank” on it!

August 27, 2007 Flashback Video: “Nothing Compares 2 U”

Sinead O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” has to be one of the most striking videos I have ever seen; it still gives me chills! The video for “Nothing Compares 2 U” was directed by John Maybury and widely considered to be one of the best videos of the 1990s. What I love about the video the most is that the video consists almost solely of a closeup on O’Connor’s face as she passionately sings the song’s lyrics. The video’s legendary moment comes toward the end, when genuine tears rolls down each side of her face! You better work! It was rumored that these tears were caused by the lyric “All the flowers that you planted, Mama” which was a reflection of the rocky relationship she had with her late mother whom she claims abused her.
