Across the pond in the UK, it managed to remain at #1 for 3 weeks before slipping out of the top spot, spending the next 14 weeks in the Top 40. Just recently in 2008 the Official UK Charts Company named “It Feels So Good” the biggest selling dance song of the 21st century. It sold 650,000 copies in the UK.

While Beyoncé’s “Sweet Dreams” video was good, it brought me back to Eurythmic’s iconic “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” video. This video helped catapult the British duo into the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1983 and it was their only U.S. hit. Annie Lennox’s unique and androgynous look really made her stand out among the rest of the glamorous eighties ladies.

Over the years, “Sweet Dreams” has been sampled and covered numerous times by artists ranging from Marylin Manson to Britney Spears. Even Beyoncé paid homage to Eurythmics by adding the song to the live performance of her own “Sweet Dreams” during her I Am… tour.

All this talk about Electrik Red got me thinking about how much I miss girl groups, which is why I decided to bring it back to the lovely ladies of En Vogue for today’s flashback video. “My Lovin’ (Never Gonna Get It),” is one of the En Vogue’s signature songs. Today’s flashback video is Mazzy Star’s 1994 “Fade Into You”, love muffins push play and allow yourself to just drift away.

Mazzy Star were an American alternative rock band formed in 1989 from the group Opal, a collaboration of guitarist David Roback and bassist Kendra Smith. Smith’s friend Hope Sandoval became the group’s vocalist when Smith left the band. Mazzy Star is probably best known for the song “Fade into You” which brought the band some success in the early to mid 1990s and was the group’s biggest mainstream hit, earning radio and MTV airplay. Roback and Sandoval were the creative center of the band, with Sandoval writing most of the lyrics and Roback composing most of the music. ~ Wikipedia

I had to come to you with Beyonce’s first #1 hit single “Crazy In Love” off of her Grammy award winning album Dangerously In Love. This was one of the best albums the year it was released. To this day, I still jam out to her very first album. Get into this!

Some of you may not remember Karen White but she has the voice of an angel and the image to match. This song used to be the jam and she was singing about being a Superwoman before Alicia Keys’ hit. Well not really, but for those ladies that feel overworked and under-appreciated, sing along with the song. Enjoy!

Cassie’s hit “Me & U” caused a frenzy when it hit radio stations from her self-titled debut album worldwide in 2006 causing the single to peak at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. This track had me shaking my bagel buns and dipping it low on the dance floor. Love muffins, remember anything is possible if you work hard at it.

Alicia Keys is truly one of the best artists out there right now and she’ll probably be noted as one of the best of our generation. I love this song because her lyrics could not be more on point than this, “What goes around, comes around, what goes up, must come down.” It’s that chick named “Karma” and sometimes she can be a b*tch! Sony is releasing a new Mariah Carey compilation album in the United States in January featuring 18 of her greatest love songs entitled Love Ballads. However, my love muffins the UK and Ireland will get a chance to purchase the album early on October 20th. “My All” the song featured above is on the upcoming album and one of my favorite Mimi songs of all-time! This #1 ballad is from her 1997 Butterfly album that also included such hits as “Honey” and “Breakdown”, enjoy!

Mary J. is the Queen of Hip Hop and R&B and this song just could have been the one to really give her the title. “Not Gon’ Cry” came from the Waiting To Exhale soundtrack, and was the anthem to all the women fed up with monkey doodle foolishness. What am I talking about was – it still is to this day. It just makes you want to think of all the mess you went through and go get his stuff and sell everything for a dollar. Don’t burn his stuff though, because they try to call that a crime. Thank you Ms. Angela Bassett for your “Love Hangover” sale in the movie. Enjoy!

This video is one to get hyped to when you want to take a trip back to the early 90s. Everyone remembers Tisha Campbell and Martin Lawrence before they became big and it was because of these two rappers with the House Party movies of the late 80s and early 90s. Christopher “Kid” Reid and Christopher “Play” Martin gave us an era of what was called “happy rap” and it was fun while it lasted just to have a good time listening to music and jamming. Michael Jackson just turned 50 and there is no better way for me to do my part to honor the King of Pop except to feature him as my flashback this week. Watch the king at work with this live performance of his song Thriller from the same titled album that is highest grossing album ever. Even at 50, Michael is and will always be the king. Gwen Stefani has just welcomed a baby boy into the world this week, so I am giving you the song that helped put her on the map. No Doubt’s song “Don’t Speak” was released in 1996 off of their Tragic Kingdom album. Listen to it and let it take you back to that time, or if this is your first listen just enjoy. Gwen is a very talented artist and I wish her and her family all the best with baby Zuma.

Salt ‘n’ Pepa teamed up with the extremely talented En Vogue for this 1994 hit. What a man, what a man, what a mighty good man. Take me higher lord – this used to be the jam and I can still turn it on and feel everything they are saying. They were the first female rapping group who were able to let you know that they were soft women but had what it took to stand their own with the male dominated genre. I ran across an article stating that Tweet would be coming back out with an album later this year, and it made me think back to her 1st hit song, 2002’s “Oops (Oh My)”! This song “It Never Rains In Southern California”, brings back so many great memories for me! Everybody used to jam to this song back in 1990, a classic tune that will never get old. A little tidbit, I just recently found out Lisa Bonet (of Cosby Show fame) is the one who directed this splendiferous video, wow you learn something new everyday. Enjoy!

The original is splendiferous as well, but this duet version just takes me to another place. Originally I thought this song was just another beautiful love song, but years later it was revealed the song is actually about a stalker! After re-listening to the lyrics, it all makes sense! Ok, I know Milli Vanilli aren’t the real dudes singing on this #1 hit song, but it is still the jam regardless! Sad that their public scandal caused this song to get pushed to the back-burner! This song is one of the best love songs from the late 80’s, I mean really take a moment and listen to the lyrics! Love Muffins, I couldn’t get this song out of my head! This was the jam back in the day! I remember when people were saying Rockwell sounded just like Michael, only to find out later that it was Michael singing the hook, not Rockwell. I used to love this song so much. It showcases her beautiful and unique voice. If you guys remember this song, then you’ll definitely enjoy this trip down memory lane. If you haven’t heard this song, you’re in for a treat. Love Muffins everything is “alright”!

Has somebody brought you into their world, drawn you into their spirit and then dumped you flat? Or maybe you keep falling for the same type of person that you know is no good for you.
