March 3, 2009 Two Sides of Reese Witherspoon

We saw Reese Witherspoon all glammed up in Rodarte for the Oscars last week, and she was recently spotted at an Avon event looking more low-key.  Though neither of these looks really speak to me, I have to say that her casual style is much more her.  I think prim and proper suits her well; the Rodarte gown is too daring against her naturally wholesome exterior.  I vote for her navy dress, however, I do wish she had kept in mind that this fabric is prone to wrinkling and that she should avoid sitting at all costs.  We still think she’s lovely regardless.  Which look do you prefer?

February 23, 2009 Best and Worst: Vanity Fair Afterparty

We like shorter lengths for the Vanity Fair Afterparty.  Claire Danes wore Zac Posen, which hit two big trends – lace and nude – to create a look that was party-friendly but still sophisticated.  Kate Bosworth knows that sheath dresses suit her tiny, tiny figure.  She looks fresh in this sparkly Alexander McQueen number.

Always a beauty, but this time, Natalia Vodianova looked like she got in a cage fight with a vicious animal.  She may be more comfortable on the runway, which is where this Calvin Klein dress should have stayed.  It’s far too editorial for the red carpet.  Jessica Biel’s Christian Lacroix dress might have been fine, but the gold rouched belt is overkill.  Too 80s, and with that pretty face, she needs to learn that simplicity will only work in her favor.
