1. Drink This! “Green Apple Martini”

Ingredients:
1 oz vodka or gin
2 oz melon liqueur
1 oz sweet and sour mix
Granny Smith apple slice, for garnish

Directions:

In a cocktail mixer full of ice, combine vodka, melon liqueur and sweet and sour mix. Shake vigorously and strain into glass. Garnish with an apple slice.

1. Drink This! “Coconut Slush”

If you’re a fan of the furry fruit, then you’ll love this frozen coconut treat.

Ingredients:
3 cups cold water
1 (16-ounce) can cream of coconut
1 cup light rum
1/4 cup maraschino liqueur
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice

Combine all ingredients in a large 2-quart container and stir until thoroughly mixed. Cover and chill in the freezer until mixture reaches the consistency of soft sorbet, about 24 hours. Using an ice cream maker*, pour in the coconut mixture and spin until thick and slushy. Keep cocktail chilled in the ice cream maker base while serving.

*Don’t have an ice cream maker? Try a blender and mix slowly.

We don’t have to say anymore. The fans are ready for this movie, and the excitement levels are off the charts. If you haven’t purchased your tickets ahead of time, you may be out of luck!

Taco Salad May 2008In the Summer we all want something easy to make. Instead of going to Burger King or McDonald’s for the dollar menu – we should focus on something more healthy. This is a favorite recipe of mine and extremely easy to make (also good for a side dish on Memorials Day). This recipe is made with ground turkey, but vegetarians can replace the meat with tofu or just use an assortment of beans (just don’t forget the beano).

1. Drink This! “Lime Cucumber Saketini”

What a refreshing way to experience sake!

Ingredients:
½ cup cucumber, peeled and roughly chopped
½ cup freshly squeezed lime juice
2 Tbsp. simple syrup*, or more to taste
5 oz. dry sake
~ Ice cubes
2 cucumber half-moons, cut halfway through middle, for garnish
Directions:
Put cucumber in a food processor and pulse until liquefied. Pour into a cocktail shaker along with the lime juice, simple syrup, and sake. Add enough ice cubes to fill the shaker. Shake for 30 seconds to a minute, then strain into two martini glasses. Garnish each glass with a cucumber half-moon and lime slice.

*To make simple syrup, place equal parts white sugar and water in a saucepan and heat until sugar dissolves. Cool before using. You can keep any extra in the fridge for another time.

2. Watch This! Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Although it was officially released at midnight on Wednesday night, this is the weekend where all of the people with morning commitments who couldn’t stay up late will get to check out the film! We predict it’s going to be #1 at the box office, love muffins!

5. Do This! “Memorial Day Weekend!”

Anywhere you live, people are gearing up to head out of town or hit up local parties and BBQ’s. Although most of us may not have super sunny weather for beach time relaxation, it’s still nice to have an extra day to relax. If you’re in Los Angeles, check out Fiesta Hermosa in Hermosa Beach. Music, art, food and the well-known beer and wine garden will all be going on in Downtown Hermosa this weekend. Just keep in mind my dear love muffins that it’s a holiday weekend meant to celebrate those who have lost their lives in military service!
