august_rush.jpg

There aren’t too many new movies to pub this weekend, but we want to feature this moving family drama—August Rush. Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Keri Russell star in this film about two musicians who leave their child orphaned. He is discovered years later with an amazing musical talent that reunites his family. Most importantly, if you watched the Oscars, you saw a young woman tear up the stage singing the nominated song “Raise It Up”. Jamia Simone Nash’s power, soul and emotion are the real reasons why we think you need to see this movie! Click HERE to watch.

5. Do This! “Go Green”

1603006.jpg

We’re talking about St. Patty’s Day. Although being environmentally conscious is another way you can go green, this is the weekend to celebrate that tiny bit of Irish we all have in our hearts. Grab a beer and hit the bars, clubs and lounges that all plan to take advantage of this big party weekend. And if you’re anywhere near downtown LA’s Pershing Square, check out Monday’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade and concert starting at 11:30 am.

2. Watch This! “The Bank Job”

Starring Jason Statham, Saffron Burrows, Richard Lintern, this is the true story of an East London bank heist in the early 1970s. Just think Oceans 11 without the Las Vegas glitz and Gucci suits. Director Roger Donaldson combines honest thievery with mayhem, mistrust and malfeasance in this film.

3. Wear This! “The Man Bag”

la-fashionweek_03/07/2008_02

Los Angeles does not compare when it comes to the fashion extravaganzas that take place in the major hubs–Paris, Milan, New York–but it’s still interesting to check out the shows. If you can get in. From March 7-March 14, trunk shows, exhibitions and parties will pepper Los Scandalous with a little extra life.

1. Drink This! “Orange Frothy”

2 c. freshly squeezed orange juice
2 tsp. honey
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 c. Grand Marnier
3 c. ice

Combine orange juice, honey, Grand Marnier and vanilla in a blender and blend until well combined and foamy. Add ice and continue to blend until ice is broken up and mixture is frothy.

2. Watch This! “The Other Boleyn Girl”

True representations of Young Hollywood’s female actresses, Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson, star in this romance and betrayal entwined story of two sisters thrown into a battle for the affection of the same man, the King of England, played by Eric Bana. 5. Do This! “The Oscars”
film-oscars.jpg

Every year, the hoopla surrounding the Academy Awards grows bigger and bigger, but our favorite part of the show is probably the red carpet, not the actual ceremony! Some of our favorites will be there: George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, Casey Affleck, Cate Blanchett, Denzel Washington, Kiera Knightley, Ellen Page, etc. Who’s going to look fabulous, and who’s going to miss the mark? It all goes down at 5p/8e!

1. Drink This! “Chile Hot Chocolate”

chile_hot_choc290redo20080215005401.jpg

We’re switching things up a bit this week, offering a few suggestions that fall outside of our norm. It’s getting chilly again here in LA, so here’s a warm non-alcoholic drink to toast your insides and heat up your taste buds.

1/2 c. whole milk
1/4 c. heavy cream
1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
5 oz. milk chocolate, coarsely chopped

Combine milk, cream and cayenne in a small saucepan over medium heat and cook until simmering, about 4 minutes. Add chocolate and whisk until completely melted and well incorporated, about 2 minutes. Serve immediately. Garnish with a little mint to tame the flavor.

2. Watch This! “Jumper”

Too many sappy movies dropped this weekend, so we think you should stray from the flock and see something with a bit more action. A man realizes that a genetic mutation allows him to transport himself anywhere in time, and he soon finds out that he is amongst a band of similar people waging a war against another group set on killing them. Doug Liman, the same director who brought you The Bourne Identity and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, is behind this one.

3. Wear This! “Suede Slips”

dg_suededriving_shoe.jpg

The guys out there asked for fashion picks, so here we go. These D & G suede driving shoes are just what you need to slip into spring and summer. Comfortable, versatile and sleek, they can take you to a day in the office to a day in the countryside. If that’s your thing of course.

In terms of mainstream play, he’s been getting love from Power 106’s evening DJs lately with this second single from his second album, Make Sure They See My Face. Get more from his Myspace HERE.

some-paintings.jpg

The exhibit ends on Saturday, February 16, so if you’re into art, especially local talent, this is your chance to get out of the Hollywood glitz and into the city’s culture.

2. Watch This! Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins

OK, so we’re suckers for comedies sometimes. If you take Martin Lawrence, Cedric the Entertainer and Mo’Nique and put them into one movie, are you not guaranteed a gut buster? If you want to get your funny on this weekend, check out Roscoe Jenkin’s return home to his family roots!

5. Do This! “Anti-Vday Prep”

bittersweet-candy-hearts.jpg

Valentine’s Day is not the most important holiday on the calendar, but it always seems to enlighten the hearts of those in love and shroud the day in gloominess for those who aren’t, so its effects must be powerful. That being said, we’re going to dedicate this bit to the singles who want to take their anti-Vday celebration to the next level. Don’t be the only one sitting at home! There are anti-Vday parties going on nationwide for friends to hang out with friends and singles to mingle with singles.
