In what proved to be the interesting winner of the #1 slot at this weekend’s boxoffice, Ben Stiller-driven Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian conquered pole position, finishing the super-sized holiday weekend with an estimated $70 million. Smithsonian marks Stiller’s biggest live-action opening, topping the $46.1 million earned opening weekend for 2004’s Meet The Fockers (this movie is too funny – you must catch if you haven’t already). The first installment of Museum opened in December 2006 with $30.4 million, going on to gross an enviable $251 million domestically. CONTINUE READING

Jesse Rosen’s The Art Of Being Straight is a smart comedy exploring the too often strict boundaries of being gay or straight from the perspective of today’s younger generation. It is being released in New York on June 5th at The Quad and in Los Angeles June 12th at Laemmle Music Hall with more cities to follow.

Yesterday the second official poster for The Twilight Saga: New Moon was released and I know I’m not the only one that’s beyond excited about this movie!

As expected, the highly-anticipated X-Men Origins: Wolverine opened at No. 1 at North American theatres, earning $87 million over the weekend. As previously reported, the film took in $35 mil on Friday alone.

The film also opened well internationally, debuting in a massive 101 territories, garnering $73 million. Its worldwide cume stands at $160 million.

Romantic comedy, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past ,starring Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner bowed at No. 2 with $15.3 million. Beyonce Knowles-driven Obsessed fell off the top spot to No. 3, earning $12.2 million over the three days – good for a $47 million total. Zach Efron-starrer 17 Again lands at No. 4 with $6.4 million, and Monsters Vs. Aliens rounds out the top five with $5.8 million.

Other notable movies in the top 10 include The Soloist, starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey, Jr., at No. 6 with $5.6 million. Disney Nature documentary, Earth, with $4.2 million at No. 7, and Channing Tatum film, Fighting, with $4.2 million at No. 8.

Next week brings the release of Star Trek, and Next Day Air, starring Mos Def and Scrubs’ Donald Faison.

Update: Wolverine made $35 mil on Friday alone.

Love muffins, did any of you see the highly-anticipated prequel to the X-Men series, X-Men Origins: Wolverine yet? Some of the reviews have been less than stellar, but the release of this movie yesterday is significant because it marks the beginning of the summer blockbuster season. All I have to say is that Ryan Reynolds is definitely one of my future baby daddys in the flick.

I don’t know, I wasn’t really feeling it…wasn’t that impressed. Thoughts?

Next up: Star Trek on May 8th. Who’s dying to see this one??
