
As expected, the highly-anticipated X-Men Origins: Wolverine opened at No. 1 at North American theatres, earning $87 million over the weekend. As previously reported, the film took in $35 mil on Friday alone.
The film also opened well internationally, debuting in a massive 101 territories, garnering $73 million. Its worldwide cume stands at $160 million.
Romantic comedy, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past ,starring Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner bowed at No. 2 with $15.3 million. Beyonce Knowles-driven Obsessed fell off the top spot to No. 3, earning $12.2 million over the three days – good for a $47 million total. Zach Efron-starrer 17 Again lands at No. 4 with $6.4 million, and Monsters Vs. Aliens rounds out the top five with $5.8 million.
Other notable movies in the top 10 include The Soloist, starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey, Jr., at No. 6 with $5.6 million. Disney Nature documentary, Earth, with $4.2 million at No. 7, and Channing Tatum film, Fighting, with $4.2 million at No. 8.
Next week brings the release of Star Trek, and Next Day Air, starring Mos Def and Scrubs’ Donald Faison.
