As you know one of my quintessential future baby daddies, actor Will Smith returned to theaters on Friday with I Am Legend, a sci-fi thriller in which he plays the last man left on Earth after a man-made virus has wiped out everyone else. Box office sources expect the Warner Bros. release to open above $80 million for the three-day weekend ($29.6 million just on Friday), effortlessly taking the crown from Nicole Kidman’s The Golden Compass, which topped the field last weekend with a disappointing $26 million. The film’s take is good enough for the biggest December opening ever. Will was last in theaters with The Pursuit of Happyness, which kicked off with $26.5 million in December 2006.
“Will is a four-quadrant star,” said Dan Fellman, the studio’s president of domestic theatrical distribution, touting solid film-anticipation ratings among both genders, young and old.
Well let me just say that I saw I Am Legend on Friday and my F.B.D. carried that film all by himself delivering a super duper splendid performance that in my opinion is Oscar-worthy.
