While most of us were gorging on turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing last week, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden had other ideas. The expecting couple were spotted by a source dining at a local sushi restaurant in Los Angeles for an alternative Thanksgiving dinner.

Which begs the question… is it healthy to eat raw fish while pregnant? Never fear, I have done a little research, and according to the American Pregnancy Association “many of the main sushi type fish contain high levels of mercury and should be completely avoided,” but “women also need to remember that not all sushi is uncooked, and most fish contain essential nutrients and vitamins needed for growth and development of their baby.” Avoid those high mercury levels, Nicole! Just a little warning.

The Simple Life star, Nicole Richie and boyfriend, Joel Madden, who are due to have their first child in January, had a Wizard of Oz-Themed baby Shower. The couple are donating all the baby gifts they received to families in need through the newly-formed Richie Madden Foundation through the Los Angeles Free Clinic.

“It’s really sweet,” says shower guest Rashida Jones, of NBC’s The Office. “With all the swag these days, we’re given so much stuff it’s almost wasteful, and it’s kind of nice when we’re giving to each other to give to someone else.”

I’m so happy for Nicole and Joel! It’s amazing how she turned her whole life around in less than a year! Congrats!

… is getting so big! Nicole stopped at a LA PETCO yesterday to pickup a little gold fish for her baby on the way I presume , how cute!

Cindy Adams of the New York Post is reporting that the very pregnant Nicole Richie was caught getting her smoke on two separate times during her recent New York City trip.

Pony tail, black jeans, waistcoat. Exits DaSilvano with one young girl, one middle-age lady. On the sidewalk, after checking who’s at which outdoor tables, she lights up. They jump into a waiting black Caddy Escalade, Nicole into the front seat. Still smoking.

Three days later, 7:30 p.m., Nobu. For somebody who doesn’t eat, she sure frequents lots of restaurants. She’s there with the baby in the bun’s father. They leave. Outside she lights up again.

Well Nicole you should know that smoking while pregnant carries all sorts of dangers to the pregnancy and the baby. To start with, smoking increases the risk of miscarriage, premature birth and problems with the placenta. It can also result in low birth weight, which makes a baby more susceptible to other problems. Babies whose mothers smoked during the pregnancy are at greater risk of developing respiratory diseases like asthma and are much more likely to die of sudden infant death syndrome, which is also known as cot death.

I just love what pregnancy has done to Nicole Richie who was spotted leaving an anti-drinking class in Venice, CA yesterday. The mother-to-be has gained some much needed weight, seems happier, and continues to let us have it with her fashion sense. (B. Scott applauding.)
