Mary J. Blige just debuted her lead single for her upcoming album Growing Pains and all I can say is that I’m less than pleased. “Just Fine” is an upbeat song about being happy with yourself. While I can appreciate the sentiment behind the song, it came across as “just boring”. And the lyrics are not as sophisticated as would have liked.

I’m a Mary J. Blige fan but I have to tell the truth. Unlike other people, I don’t think MJB necessarily has to do sad songs to be successful (her last album was the business and it was happy), but this just lacks effort and inspiration. I’m disappointed! Hope she comes with fire for the next single! Next time she should save these kinda songs for album fillers!

I know it took forever (nearly two months to be exact) but we finally received the video for the ASCAP Awards!! As previously posted, I covered the red carpet at The 20th Anniversary ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards with a film crew! I had an opportunity to meet and interview Mary J. Blige who was honored with the “Voice of Music Award,” the super duper orgasmic Tank, Kandi Burruss, the beautiful Letoya Luckett, Gabriel “Wonder” Arillo, Erica Campbell of Mary Mary, Young Berg, my new best friend Drew Sidora and the splendiferous Keri Hilson. Love muffins please keep in mind that I had no cue cards, it was a last minute thing and everything was very spontaneous! I did the best I could under the circumstances! I don’t think I’m alone when I say that my favorite Mary J. Blige album is “My Life”. Although during the recording process, Mary J. was at a low point emotionalyl, battling drug and alcohol abuse, the music she created was so pure and soulful. Like Billie Holliday and Donny Hathaway who also infused their music with the deep pain of their personal lives, Mary J. Blige took her depression and created an album that critics and fans alike consider to be her greatest work to date. This once again proves that out of great pain can come great art.

My Life was certified 3X platinum by the RIAA in December 1996. In 2003, the album was ranked number 279 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. It’s Blige’s only album on the list. Revist My Life!

P.S. After completing the My Life album, The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul also covered the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, classic hits “Natural Woman” for the New York Undercover soundtrack so I tacked that on the end. Enjoy Love Muffins!

Portia de Rossi and Ellen Degeneres’ public display of love makes me so proud to be gay! I can’t say enough about how great Ellen was as the host of the Oscars. And to think she was once banished from television! Remarkable!

And you know I couldn’t end this post without mentioning my premier future baby daddy, Djimon Hounsou, who looked rather dapper in his chocolate suit. Just orgasmic!
