People has confirmed that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon has obtained a marriage license on the Caribbean island of Eleuthera, Bahamas.

According to marriage requirements for the Bahamas, a couple must be in the country for at least 48 hours, be over the age of 16 and have obtained a valid marriage license within 90 days, explains Monique Gomez, a Bahamian attorney in Nassau who specializes in family law. The source says that Carey did obtain a license in Eleuthera within that time period. And clarifies Gomez, “The minister would make sure [the license] goes into the registry. It’s still a valid marriage even if it’s not filed. Anywhere in the world.” The New York Post reported that the nuptials took place at Carey’s private estate off Eleuthera. Carey owns an estate on Windermere Island, which is an exclusive Bahamian island where the British royals vacation. Though there has been no official confirmation of the wedding, Linda Cannon revealed to E! Online, “He called and told us all about it.”

Love muffins, I’m not going to believe this until Mariah or someone on her behalf officially confirms it.

Update: Mariah’s appearance on “The View” which was scheduled to be taped on Monday, May 5th, has been canceled. No further details were given about the cancellation or about a new date for the taping. – Mariah Daily Journal

Update II: A representative at the island’s register’s office told MTV News on Friday that she has no record of a license in Carey or Cannon’s names.

According to my source, Sudack and Carey have been dating for 3 years, experienced a brief breakup at some point within the last year, reconciled, and now have been married at the home Carey just bought in Eleuthera, the Bahamas. So love muffins do we believe this little birdie or not? Or is this just a huge fabrication for a special episode of E!’s Pop Fiction?

Love muffins I just can believe this! A source close to Mariah Carey has confirmed to Access Hollywood that the she’s engaged to Nick Cannon.

Reps for both singers were unavailable for comment. The couple sent the rumor mill into overdrive when 38-year-old Mariah (with Nick on her arm) was seen sporting a dazzling new piece of bling on her ring finger at the after party for her Tribeca film, “Tennessee,” in New York. When asked at the party what he loved about Mariah, 27-year-old Nick gave a one-word answer. “Everything,” he told People. Up until recently, Mariah had been romantically linked to music executive Mark Sudack. However, she never confirmed the romance. Mariah was previously married to record executive Tommy Mottola from 1993 – 1998. Nick was previously engaged to Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks in 2007. However, the couple called off the engagement that same year. This will be the first marriage for the “Drumline” star.
