Rutgers University Senior Dymir Arthur brought up these concerns, questioning the panel about “religion and homophobia within the black Church.” With a piercing, concerned glare, B. Scott nodded his head and cracked a slight smile before deeming it “ironic [that] homophobia exists within the [black] Church.” He further stated that a “large portion of the choir members, deacons, and sometimes the preachers” engage in homosexual activity or openly identify themselves as gay. The irony comes into play when, according to B. Scott, ministers then stand before their congregations and “focus on the condemnation of men,” rather than “focus[ing] on teaching others to become more Christ-like, who teaches all to love, accept, and uplift fellow men.” The message is clear. According to B. Scott, these “Men of God” are essentially “responsible” for many things, including “the increase in HIV/AIDS cases and teen pregnancies” in the black community because they refuse to “talk about these things in church.” This in turn creates “a mentality that people should be ashamed of themselves,” leading to a decrease in the use of protection during sexual encounters. B. Scott further said that when people fail to practice safe-sex methods, they develop a sense of “worthlessness” and a “loss of respect for themselves and for the people they’re involved with.”

In the issue, which hits newsstands March 17, Michelle reveals some details on her new life in the White House. Here are some highlights:

On her first weekend in the White House: Well, we still had family here, so it was almost like a wedding. A huge, very complicated wedding. The last visitors didn’t leave until Sunday. And then the first Monday was kind of weird. You know: Now we live here, and Barack is getting up and going to work, and it’s just us. This is our home now.

You better speak on it Gwyneth! Many people in the entertainment industry try to break people down by mainly by criticizing others weight. I stay fit only because it is healthy – I love having a clean body and soul. Staying fit doesn’t mean you have to be a size 0 or a size 2. You can be a size 12 and still be healthy and fit.

“I don’t wear little mini skirts and low-cut tops. If you want to show your bits off, it’s up to you. When I was 18, I had a few glasses of Alcopop — they’re bubblegummy drinks with a bit of alcohol — and it was gross. I’ve tasted champagne, which is gross. And I tasted wine, which I don’t like.”

I notice that when many singers come on the scene, they embrace the girl next door look, but then years later they shed that image for a more sexed up image. But then again, there are some that don’t shed it, but embrace it with a little sex appeal, i.e. Mandy Moore and Hilary Duff. Thoughts?

On being pregnant with twins: “I love it. It makes me feel like a woman. It makes me feel that all the things about my body are suddenly there for a reason. It makes you feel round and supple, and to have a little life inside you is amazing. Also, I’m fortunate. I think some women have a different experience depend-ing on their partner. I think that affects it. I happen to be with somebody who finds pregnancy very sexy. So that makes me feel very sexy.”

On her international family: “When I was growing up I wanted to adopt, because I was aware there were kids that didn’t have parents. It’s not a humanitarian thing, because I don’t see it as a sacrifice. It’s a gift. We’re all lucky to have each other. I look at Shiloh—because, obviously, physically, she is the one that looks like Brad and I when we were little—and say, ‘If these were our brothers and sisters, how much would we have known by the time we were six that it took into our 30s and 40s to figure out?’ I suppose I’m giving them the childhood I always wished I had.”

On daughter Shiloh’s birth: “We were in this little hospital in Africa when Shi was born. I don’t think there was anybody else in the hospital. It was just a little cottage, the three of us. On working with George Clooney: “It was a no-brainer. I heard George was making a movie and I said, “When?” If he had asked me to make peanut butter sandwiches for the catering, I would have said, “Crunchy or smooth?” It’s never less than great with him. And poor me, I had to watch guys throwing a football all day. Yeah, that was horrible. (Chuckles) Talk about living the dream.”

On being a happy person: “I’m fortunate. I think I was born happy. If I have a bad moment, it doesn’t take me long to switch the gear back. I say, ‘That sucked,’ and move on. There’s a lot I want to do. I want to be better at things. I want to know more; I want to understand more. I want to figure out what it is I’m supposed to do.
