April 3, 2009 Madonna’s Adoption Plans Rejected

Madonna’s petition to adopt a second Malawian child, dubbed by the media as “Mercy,” was rejected by a local judge Friday.

“The decision came down to residency requirement and the fact that the judge believes she was being well taken care of in the orphanage,” said Zione Ntaba, a spokeswoman for the Malawi Justice Department. “For the Malawians, the fact that the child is at an orphanage, is being taken care of and is going through the school education system, that does qualify as the best interests of a child,” Ntaba added.

The Queen of pop recently filed a petition to adopt a girl, Chifundo James, 4, whose first name translates to “mercy” in Chichewa, the country’s national language. “Mercy” would have joined Madonna’s three other children, including a son she adopted from Malawi in 2006. [Source]

Love muffins, the Material Mom looks to have her sights on adopting a second Malawian baby. This, of course, follows the fiasco that surrounded the adoption of her first baby from the small African country, David. With Guy no longer in the picture, perhaps she won’t run into the obstacles she supposedly did when adopting David – apparently Mr. Ex-Madonna was opposed to having any more children. No one stops Madonna, not even loser director husbands!

Madge will apparently be visiting the southeast African nation this weekend – a representative from the government has confirmed that the process has already begun, papers have been filed. It’s rumored that this time around she’s looking to adopt a baby girl.

Madonna will extend her Sticky and Sweet tour this summer to play arenas across Europe.
