UPDATE: MTV.COM has confirmed the performance!

According to TMZ, Janet Jackson will be performing in a show-stopping tribute to her brother Michael. The performance is set to feature 20 backup dancers and was choreographed by famed choreographers Frank Gatson and Travis Payne. Choreographer Wade Robson also posted a bulletin to his MySpace page saying:

“WADE ROBSON, MIA MICHAELS, BRIAN FRIEDMAN, CRIS JUDD, TRAVIS PAYNE, TINA LANDON, DAVE SCOTT, TYCE DIORIO, JERRY SLAUGHTER, LAURIE ANN GIBSON & GIL DULDULAO ARE PERFORMING WITH JANET JACKSON ON THE MTV VMA AWARDS ON SEPTEMBER 13TH IN TRIBUTE TO MICHAEL JACKSON.”

Love muffins, I really think if this is true, then this is definitely going to be something to remember for years to come. Make sure you tune in to MTV this Sunday, September 13th at 9pm EST!

The legendary Janet Jackson is getting ready to return to the music spotlight after her departure from Def Jam last year. With a newly re-vamped website and an official twitter account, Miss Jackson is set to release a new album at the beginning of next year. This may indeed be the first promotional shot released from the currently untitled album. She has such a striking resemblance to her brother Michael in this picture, don’t you agree muffins?

Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction” case will be re-examined at the order of the Supreme Court. Today the justices sent the case back to the federal court in Philadelphia that had originally thrown out the $550,000 government fine against CBS, the network responsible for airing the segment in which the singer’s breast was briefly exposed during the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show. The FCC ruled the segment obscene, and 20 of CBS’ affiliates were also fined.
