This is a very sad story. I hope people aren’t trying to milk Brandy just because she’s a celebrity with money. Back in January, the world finally found out about the huge car accident involving Brandy Norwood that led to the death of Awatef Aboudihaj in December 2006. The deceased woman’s parents filed a $50 mil suit, and NOW the children have done the same. No word yet on the amount. In no way am I pardoning Brandy’s mistake because what happened did result in a major consequence, but millions of dollars do not equate to emotional bandaids! These suits will have significant repercussions to Brandy’s career as well. For now, her return to NBC’s America’s Got Talent is currently up in the air.

Black civil rights leaders in Los Angeles claim the California Highway Patrol has made singer/actress Brandy “a POLITICAL TROPHY.” Today, Najee Ali, leader of Project Islamic HOPE, said the CHP’s recommendation to file charges against the singer “is unfairly targeting her for prosecution because of her celebrity.” Ali is organizing an e-mail campaign in the African American community to put pressure on City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo to reject the case.

Brandy! Race has nothing to do with this. Someone died as result of your negligence. They should investigate to decide whether charges should be brought! Just because you didn’t mean to do something doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be held RESPONSIBLE for your actions. If she had any sense she wouldn’t be pulling media stunts with Black civil rights leaders because that’s only going to bring more national attention!

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles City Attorney, Delgadillo, is considering the CHP’s recommendation to criminally charge Brandy with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. Delgadillo says “We will treat this case like every other case and treat it very seriously because someone died.”
