The Internet is replete with various characters who only need a camera and over-the-top antics to draw attention to themselves. B. Scott, a sensation in the viral world who has popularized the phrases “love muffins,” “double kisses” and “no ma’am,” is an exception; positivism and straight-forwardness are two elements to his growing brand.

He is unapologetically flamboyant and has no desire to conform. One may be left with his trademark line, “B****, boo, bye” if they persist in trying to fit him into any preconceived mold.

I don’t want to sound like a fan, but I must say this: I LOVE B. SCOTT. Ever since one of my Facebook friends posted a few of his videos, I have been a proud love muffin. I’ve recently found out I’m in good company with Jamie Foxx who declared during his Foxxhole radio show that he is, too, a love muffin. “I LOVE B. SCOTT,” and continued on to say, “He’s very attractive. B. Scott looks like a cross between Prince, Rosario Dawson and Lenny Kravitz.” It’s not hard for B. Scott to bake love muffins. With over 62,000 Youtube subscribers it is clear that B. Scott is set apart. In his videos he is personable, open about his life, and very funny. B. Scott is openly gay, multi-racial, and makes no apologies for who he is, where he’s been, and where he is going. The NOH8 campaign was put together by celebrity photographer Adam Bouska and parter Jeff Parshley as a silent protest and photo project to be a direct response to the unfortunate passage of Proposition 8 (which amended the Constitution to ban same-sex marriage) last November.

Rutgers University Senior Dymir Arthur brought up these concerns, questioning the panel about “religion and homophobia within the black Church.” With a piercing, concerned glare, B. Scott nodded his head and cracked a slight smile before deeming it “ironic [that] homophobia exists within the [black] Church.” He further stated that a “large portion of the choir members, deacons, and sometimes the preachers” engage in homosexual activity or openly identify themselves as gay. The irony comes into play when, according to B. Scott, ministers then stand before their congregations and “focus on the condemnation of men,” rather than “focus[ing] on teaching others to become more Christ-like, who teaches all to love, accept, and uplift fellow men.” The message is clear. According to B. Scott, these “Men of God” are essentially “responsible” for many things, including “the increase in HIV/AIDS cases and teen pregnancies” in the black community because they refuse to “talk about these things in church.” This in turn creates “a mentality that people should be ashamed of themselves,” leading to a decrease in the use of protection during sexual encounters. B. Scott further said that when people fail to practice safe-sex methods, they develop a sense of “worthlessness” and a “loss of respect for themselves and for the people they’re involved with.”
