Grammy Performances: Alicia Keys and Feist
+ February 10, 2008
Alicia Keys and John Mayer ripped this performance of “No One”. I have heard her perform this song countless times, but tonight it had a brand new energy.
I have a special place in my heart for Feist. Even though the performance wasn’t particular high energy, I think it matched her personality well.

Grammy Performances: Alicia Keys and Carrie Underwood
+ February 10, 2008
Alicia Keys Performed a virtual duet with a hologram of Frank Sinatra. She sounded wonderful but it wasn’t really my thing.
Carrie Underwood performed with what looked like the cast of “Stomp”. She got a little Christina Aguilera towards the end!
Grammy Red Carpet: Alicia Keys Rocks The Up-Do!
+ February 10, 2008
Alicia Keys was in a cobalt blue Armani gown. I know the hair may be a little controversial. I heard people on TV saying it looked like a rooster but I kinda like it. I think it looked much better on television than it does in these still pictures. Call me crazy but it works for me…Cock-a-doodle-doo!

Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Party
+ February 9, 2008

Clive Davis’ Pre-Grammy Party was on and poppin’ tonight. Everyone was out and about but the breaking news is that Whitney Houston hands down was the best looking woman in the house! God has answered my prayers!
Alicia Keys - Graceful and Elegant

Lindsay Lohan - Clean and Sober! Let’s hope it sticks.

Ashanti - Love the dress but when I first saw this picture I thought she had left her curlers in. Is it just me or is she starting to look like Janet Jackson?

Fergie - Ever since she got engaged, she’s had this glow!

Fantasia - I could do a “Color Purple” joke like “You Sho Is…” but I won’t. I love me some Fantasia but she must know she is wrong for that hair and makeup - cute dress though.

Carrie Underwood - She always looks fabulous to me!

Janet Jackson - Standing by her man.

Paula Abdul - Grandma, Is that you? (OK that was mean but damn!)

Rihanna - That face and hair are flawless, but I don’t know about that dress!

Alicia Keys: Stripped, Raw, and Real
+ January 19, 2008
I know it’s a lot of music post right now but what can I say, I’m in a musical mood. Anyway, A couple of months ago, Alicia Keys did a show for Clear Channel Entertainment called “Stripped, Raw and Real” where she performed 6 songs in promotion of her new album. I got my hands on the mp3s from that show and they were really good quality so I thought I’d share. My favorite song of the night was her rendition “Tender Love” (A cover of the Force MD’s classic for all my 80s music fans out there). She had me worried with her cover of The Fray’s “How To Save A Life” but Ms. Keys has totally redeemed herself with this one. Her version is just amazing.

One-hit wonder Uncle Sam also did a version of Tender Love that I used to have on repeat while in boarding school. Ahhh the memories. If you don’t remember who Uncle Sam is, he’s the guy who sang “I Don’t Ever Want To See You Again”.
Uncle Sam - Tender Love (Cover)
And we must never forget the original song sung by Force MD’s and written by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. The video looks corny now but trust me, it’s a classic. Where are all my 80’s fans?

Cover Wars: Alicia Keys and The Fray
+ January 16, 2008

One of my favorite artist out right now, Alicia Keys, said in a recent interview that one of her favorite bands was The Fray. Just by coincidence I ran across her live cover of their hit, “How To Save A Life”, and I wanted to know what my Love Muffins thought of the song. I have also provided the original song so you can see how you think it stacks up.

Best Of 2007: Best Album!
+ December 31, 2007

As with any year, there were plenty of albums released in 2007. But only a few were able to tickle my fancy. Some of these albums moved my soul, others touched my spirit, and others just made me wanna hit the club house. In the end, I don’t really care how commercially successful the album was. The only thing I care about is if it made me groove. So here’s my list of 2007 best albums (in no particular order).
- Feist – The Reminder
- Mary J. Blige – Growing Pains
- Alicia Keys – As I Am
- Kanye West – Graduation
- Amy Winehouse – Back To Black
- Britney Spears – Blackout
- Jill Scott – The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3
- Jay-Z - American Gangster
- Keyshia Cole - Just Like You
- Rihanna - Good Girl Gone Bad
- Kylie Minogue - X
So love muffins, Let me know which albums had you jammin’ this year?
Best Of 2007: Best Song!
+ December 31, 2007
When it came to evaluate the best songs of 2007, I looked at all the songs that dominated the airways this year. These were the songs that served as the soundtrack to our lives and the tunes that we couldn’t run away from no matter how hard we tried. Of all the songs that topped the Billboard Top 100 Airways chart this year, only a select few were able to hold the title for longer than 3 weeks. Here they are (in the order in which they debuted on the chart this year)!
- Beyonce – Irreplaceable (8 weeks + 3 weeks in 2006)
- Akon – Don’t Matter (6 Weeks)
- T-Pain feat. Yung Joc – Buy U A Drink (Shawty Snappin’) (8 weeks)
- Rihanna feat. Jay-Z – Umbrella (4 weeks)
- Fergie – Big Girls Don’t Cry (7 weeks)
- Soulja Boy – Crank That (Soulja Boy) (3 weeks)
- Alicia Keys – No One (9 weeks and still counting)
So Love Muffins, Let me know which one you think was the best song of 2007!
Alicia Keys Looks Splendiferious in Tokyo!
+ November 29, 2007
Ooh la la! Alicia Keys is stepping her game up! The songstress looks absolutely orgasmic as she promotes her new album “As I Am” today in Tokyo, Japan. Her make-up is fierce and her dress is fab! She has come a long way from that “grungy style” look she had during her first album. Thoughts?

Alicia Keys Sells 742,000 Copies & Debuts At No. 1!
+ November 21, 2007

According to Billboard and Nielsen SoundScan Alicia Keys’ new album “As I Am” has sold over 742,000 copies in the United States debuting at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 tomorrow!
Alicia Keys storms The Billboard 200 this week with “As I Am” (J), which debuts at No. 1 after selling 742,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That’s the best sales week for a solo female artist since Norah Jones’ “Feels Like Home” shifted 1 million copies in 2004. In a week where every top 10 album shifted more than 100,000 units, Josh Groban’s “Noel” (143/Reprise) zooms 6-2 with a 93% increase to 223,000. Celine Dion’s “Taking Chances” (Columbia), her first new pop album in four years, opens at No. 3 with 214,000. The multi-label, multi-artist “Now 26″ collection is new at No. 4 with 208,000, the third lowest opening tally for the “Now” line.
This just goes to show that even in an age of free internet downloading quality music still sells and is appreciated by many. Congrats Alicia you deserve it!
