November 7, 2009 In Case You Missed It: Rihanna’s 20/20 Interview

sawyer-rihanna-475x326-1

Rihanna’s interview with 20/20 finally aired in its entirety last night and she pretty much left nothing to the imagination. She spoke quite openly and candidly about the events that occurred between her and Chris Brown. As most of you know my thoughts on the situation, I’m not going to discuss it any further. Kudos to Rihanna for speaking out.

You can watch the complete 20/20 interview after the jump. Also hit the jump to see Rihanna’s brand new single cover for “Wait Your Turn”.

  • Im glad she said “Look at it 3rd person”

  • I don’t think she was being honest. At all That is all.

  • Stay Strong Rihanna, thanks for actually saying what happen. People are so stupid and keep coming up with excuse for that boy. THE WAIT IS OVA and I can’t wait.

  • Yup I’m buying her CD and I haven’t actually bought a cd in a very long time. Lol.

  • I just wish she would have said what she did. Chris was wrong for what he did, but I also believe a woman should never provoke a man. Its a double standard, and it shouldn’t be that way. I’ve heard from too many people in the industry that she’s crazy. I don’t have much sympathy for her. I think it was a publicity stunt for her album and to make her look innocent. Bitch please!

  • Shes seems emotionless

  • OMG.. SHE THOUGHT HE WAS READING HIS APOLOGY OFF OF THE TELEPROMTER??? THIS OBVIOUSLY WAS A REHEARSED INTERVIEW, ALL THE QUESTIONS WERE SCREENED FIRST.. I RECALLED HER SAYING THAT THEY WERE EQUALLY DANGEROUS…… Y DIDNT SHE ELABORATE AND ADMIT HER WRONG DOIN TO?? I KNOW HE WAS WRONG IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD.. BUT THERE ARE 3 SIDES TO THIS STORY HIS, HERS AND THE TRUTH… THEY NEED TO STOP STALKING ABOUT IT IF THEY REALLY WANNA KEEP THE LIVES PRIVATE. i WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SAY THAT THEIR ARE OTHER THINGS THAT THEY CAN BOTH DO IN THE COMMUNITY TO HELP OTHERS OTHER THAN APPEARING IN FRONT OF TV TO PROMOTE ALBUMS.!!! SHE ONLY WANTS TO TALK WHEN HER ALBUM IS COMMING OUT?? HMMM I WONDER…….

  • I honestly feel Rhianna handled her self like a true lady. It’s ridiculous how people are constantly trying to make excuses for Chris Brown, in my opinion her interview seemed way more sincere than his. I don’t care how much someone provokes me I will never take it to the extent of biting them, that is borderline savagery. I am pretty sure if your sister, mother aunt etc. was in that position you all would look at it differently. I have a new found respect for Ms. Fenty and I still like Chris Brown, I just hope he gets help for his anger issues and can continue on with his career.

  • love is realy blind

  • Thank you for sharing the videos and I hope that this interview will help somebody, perhaps to get out of a situation like this …

I still would never buy a CD from her, but the things she had to go through are tough and I am glad that she made it!

  • I’m can never agree with anyone that thinks a woman can provoke a man..my response to that is simply “take a walk nigga, cool off!”..BUT…this is a BIG BUT.. I’ve been in the company of a few island women..they have sorta changed my perspective on the thought I have..know your place as a woman is what I’ll say. They think they’re equal..i.e. If … Read Morethe man cheats, I say, I would not degrade myself by doing the same…If we’re married, I WILL get your money..if we’re dating it’ll be the END. They looked at me like I’m out my F*ing mind! They said, I’ll have a new bf the next day. GROSS! So with that being said, it’s a cultural thing. A man will only hit on you if you ALLOW it. You can’t fight a man..so quit camouflauging it as “we had a fight!” bullshit! Anyman is a weapon to a woman..LEGALLY, AND MORALLY!..He was wrong, anyway u want to twist it. I feel sorry for her, SHE, not HIM, doesn’t realize her worth. “she still loves him, and wants him to succeed”?? fuck you nigga! I hope u never sell another album JERK! IS THAT BEHAVIOR ACCEPTABLE FOR YOUR DAUGHTER?–is what I’ll ask him. They’ll (woman beaters) all say NO!..Well it isn’t acceptable for me JERK.
I’m waiting for that day, I will definitely pull a MADEA move with the hot grits!–ooh I’m waiting to pull the babyoil on the bathroom floor, and the belt move..THAT LOOKS LIKE A LOT OF FUN! lmfao!

  • Deciding to speak on a domestic situation around the release of your album screams promotion. I do not think people are making excuses for Chris, it is just hard (especially after watching this) to consider this interview genuine and sincere. Rihanna has been seen plenty of times attending all types of clubs getting both high and drunk wearing see through tops with no bras . If you can do all of that after you just got your ass beat then you could damn well have come out and spoke on the situations long time ago No way in hell do i support how Chris handled the situation however like others have said people do not know the entire story that lead to him getting this abusive with her. People have to understand that this situation was handled between two very young people and while Chris is old enough to know better he is still young and has alot of time to mature. According to other sites his camp is extremely pissed that Rihanna refuse to open up about her being abusive towards him and although he had no right to take it there she should be held accountable for her actions as well. No one should be allowed to lay a hand on anyone else male or female. Because these women know they are likely less to get in trouble they take advantage and Rihanna looks crazy as hell

  • Thank-you so much for posting this.It is so important for our young people and parents to see and hear. This is a problem that exists with our youth today. There are children in high school that are going through this. Our children and young adults need to understand that this type of thing is totally unexceptable. They need to understand their self worth.Thank-you to Rihanna for finding the courage to give this interview, when it is quite evident that it was very painful still. My prayers are with her and all the unknowns.

  • I MISSED IT…. DAMN!!

ok, i do not usually comment on these things because i am tired of that whole incident, no kidding. First of all let me say that i have lost all the respect that i had towards this young lady. I do not think that she was the least bit sincere in this interview and you could see that she was forcing herself to be emotional. my take on the whole situation is that she is fronting…this happened since February. She said that she doesnt want little girls getting killed or whatever was that she said…and she now chooses to come out days before her album and do this interview. Had she been the least bit concerned about anyone else apart from herself she would have taken a stance on domestic violence and helped counsel those battered women or young girls in dangerous relationships. She is doing this just for the press. I am from the caribbean and all i can say to her is go home Rih…there is no place like home. You have to go away in order to come back and you never did. Stop fronting and take that vacay!!! I could go on and on but i will end by saying that this was a bad move on her part and i have lost all respect towards her. sorry.

  • A common attitude towards victims of rape or domestic abuse is that, if they are telling the truth, they will act a certain way. There is no one response. And, in terms of speaking out, most victims -regardless of gender – never say anything at all for years. Think about it: they blame themselves, they fear judgement from other people, they are still sorting out their emotions and decisions about what comes next. I think, when discussing anyone who has anything to do with a violent situation, those are things worth considering.

Also, it is easy to believe that this was interview was being saved to generate press for the album. I’m not going to dispute that. What I also offer for consideration are the following: 1.) until CB pled guilty in June, both parties may have been advised by legal counsel not to discuss the event and 2) Their lives aren’t entirely their own, R could have been directed by her record label not to discuss this until this time.

    Just food for thought.

  • In my opinion, growing up in an abusive household has nothing to do with not controlling your anger. Chris Brown chose to hit her repeatedly; he simply could not control his anger. Fame got to Chris, as Rihanna had said, “There was no right or wrong [that was out of the equation to him],” he just did it unconsciously. I understood everything that she was saying because I can honestly agree with her firsthand because (being male) I grow up in a devastatingly abusive home and not once have I thought of or would ever hit the person that I love. Clearly, she loved him and “had no interest in hitting him back” because love is no where near that; though, one thing love is, is blind. Rihanna is a very smart girl and knows exactly what she is talking about and I am so proud of her (You saw the way she cut Diane Sawyer off? She said, “I am strong”) because her vulnerability is truly her strength and I commend her for that.

  • Rihanna is not the typical abuse victim. Remember, not all women(or men) react the same way, because that would be stupid to generalize that. Some are strong enough to get up and talk about it. Its been 11 months, since the incident, she is working and she is happy.

How is that so hard to understand? Some people decide to cry and cope for a short time, and then get moving because life does not wait. Thats what she is choosing to do.

  • I don’t condone what Chris Brown did, cause I was raised different than that. But It really seem like she is doing this to hype up her album. I mean read between the line the title” The Wait it ova”. She is just doing all this boohoo crap to get publicity. I like a previous poster wonder, if she really wanted to help girls why she wait so long. And also why do it when your new album is about to be released, its all publicity. Shame on you RiRi for waiting so long if you really cared about helping others.

  • okay..i feel like all of you are picking sides, and making excuses..the real fact is regardless, CHRIS BROWN, still beat her up..his face wasn’t looking like hers..if she did hit him okay you supposed to suck that up. A real man would just shake it off, and be happy that you have a woman sitting beside you. IMO Chris is not a REAL MAN..dude is a faggot..just look @@ his latest album cover..for you to fight a girl like that, and have her looking stupid like that..man u a bitch made nigga..plain && simp..and yall are saying oh she hit him first, she provoked him, blah blah blah..so if she been doing that, then why didnt he leave her..huh?? like she said..eff love..im not taking sides, but what’s right is right, and what’s wrong is wrong.nd for him to do that girl like that was just plain WRONG..plain && simp..but in the end this is between them, they both have to live with this..not none of us..so to yall who is being judgemental && RACIST..SHUT DA FUKK UP..LET THESE PEOPLE LIVE THEIR LIVES IN PEACE..DAMN ANYTHING THEY DO YALL RIGHT IN THEIR BUSINESS..LIKE SHE SAID..DAMN I LOST THE LITTLE BIT OF PRIVACY I DID HAVE..THATZ JUST SAD..STOP BLAMIN THAT GIRL..BECAUSE SHE DIDNT DO IT TO HERSELF..CHRIS BROWN FAGGOT ASS DID IT..
