One of the most talked about movies of the year is finally out in limited release across America. Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire (directed by Lee Daniels) has thus far been met with rave reviews across the board. The movie is a heartbreaking account of an illiterate teen in Harlem who is pregnant with her second child (played by Gabourey ‘Gabby’ Sidibe), who enrolls in an alternative school in an attempt to turn her life around. Mo’Nique, Paula Patton, and Mariah Carey offer excellent supporting roles throughout the film.

Entertainment Weekly:

Rating: A. Precious comes to the attention of a welfare counselor, played by Mariah Carey with an authentically deglammed compassion, and once she’s in the class, she starts to wake up.

Rolling Stone:

Rating: 3½ / 4 stars. The Precious support system consists of Nurse John (an excellent Lenny Kravitz) and Ms. Weiss (the de-glittered Mariah Carey is a revelation), a social worker who knows the roots of Precious’ problems.

  • I want to see this and SUPPORT it, but I know it’s gonna be hella sad. I read the book yrs. ago!

  • HOW DO THEY EXPECT TO MAKE MONEY OFF OF THIS MOVIE IF THEY ONLY SHOW IT IN A FEW CITIES AND MINE WASN’T ONE OF THEM.

  • @TYSON LACEY- THEY ARE NOT GOING TO SEE HARDLY ANY FRUITS OF THIS LABOR BECAUSE THEY ONLY SHOW IT IN A FEW CITIES. CHICAGO ATL AND LA. THAT SUCKS

  • Good questions… but my guess is that they believe it won’t make any money, that’s why they are only showing it in select cities. They are showing it in NYC as well, but only in one borough as far as I know. SMDH

For those of u who can support the film in ur city, PLEASE DO SO!
